Payns is a French commune with 1,363 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Champagne-Ardenne ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Troyes and since 2015 to the canton of Saint-Lyé (previously canton Troyes-4 ). The inhabitants are called Payntiers .
geography
Payns is about twelve kilometers northwest of Troyes on the Seine . The Canal de la Haute-Seine also runs through the municipality . Payns is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Savières in the north, Villacerf in the northeast, Mergey in the east, Saint-Lyé in the south and southeast and Le Pavillon-Sainte-Julie in the west and southwest.
The municipality is on the Paris – Mulhouse railway line .
