history

The village is mentioned for the first time at the end of the 11th century in a deed of donation in which a Sieur Ancher II and the Lady Bellez de Praslin ceded their respective shares in the Allod Praslin to the Molesme Abbey .

In the 13th century the village came to the Lords of Plancy.

In a determination of municipal assets from 1640, 200 arpents of forest are listed.

In 1789 it was under the administration of Châlons and the Bailliage of Troyes. Politically it belonged to the constituency of Bar-sur-Aube .

During the Second World War the village was bombed by the German air force. Several buildings were destroyed and around ten people were killed.

A castle was first mentioned in 1250 as Domus fortis (possibly a stone moth ) owned by Jacques de Plancy.

In 1690 it is mentioned as the permanent residence of François de Choiseul, seigneur de Praslin.

In the course of the French Revolution , the castle was confiscated and was to be sold for the benefit of the people's property. The exact course of this matter is no longer known, but it is certain that it was "demolished" (probably set on fire) on 21 brumaire An III (October 21, 1794). The remains have been removed, there is nothing left, with the exception of a flat elevation of 8,000 m² in the center of the village on Rue du Four with massive remains of the foundation wall.

As remarkable relics of the past, the coats of arms of the de Plessis and de Choiseul families can still be found on the wall of a building in the village square .

During research in the 19th century, an illegal mint was discovered in the remains of the cellar vault. It came from the time of Henri III. The coins found showed the year 1580 and 1581.

Personalities

Charles de Choiseul, marquis de Praslin , was a captain-lieutenant in the bodyguard of King Henri IV.
