Poivres is about 50 kilometers north-northeast of Troyes . Poivres is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Soudé in the north and north-east, Sompuis in the east, Trouans in the south and south-west, Mailly-le-Camp in the west and Sommesous in the north-west.

Much of the community belongs to the Camp de Mailly military training area .
