geography
Saint-André-les-Vergers is located in the south-western part of the Troyes metropolitan area .
history
Under the direction of St. Frobert, the monks of the Abbey of Montier-la-Celle founded the village of Saint-André, which then developed around the church built in the 16th century. There is also a portrait of fruit growers decorated with garlands of fruit and vegetables. Already at that time the village was known for its vegetable growing and its orchards. The name addition Les Vergers (lit. the orchards ) was given by decree of February 4, 1919. Rights to hold vegetable markets have existed since January 28, 1559. However, the reputation as an agricultural place and the proximity to Troyes prevented it from developing into a commercial or industrial center for several centuries.
20th century
After the Second World War, the place experienced an upswing, which was initiated by the establishment of the Petitjean steel mast factory . The settlement of a few trading companies has recently led to more urban development and the influx of younger people. In the meantime, the place has acquired the reputation of a modern community. The establishment of an upper school supplemented the existing school system on site.
The positive population development that began in the thirties with the settlement of a hosiery factory continues to this day, so that the place can now offer its inhabitants cultural, sporting and social facilities.
