Roncenay is a French commune with 159 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region (before 2016 Champagne-Ardenne ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Troyes and the canton of Les Riceys (until 2015 the canton of Bouilly ). The inhabitants call themselves Roncenaysiens / Roncenaysiennes .
geography
The municipality is located about 11 kilometers south-southwest of Troyes in the south of the Aube department. The municipality consists of the village of Roncenay, which has been formed from several parts that have now grown together along the main roads. The Ousse , a small river, crosses the municipality and in parts forms the municipal boundary. Neighboring communities are Saint-Pouange in the north, Villemereuil in the northeast, Villy-le-Maréchal in the east, Assenay in the southeast, Saint-Jean-de-Bonneval in the south, Villery in the southwest and Bouilly in the west.
history
The place is first mentioned in a document in 1200 under the Latin name Roncenaium . A first French form appears as Roncenai in a document in the 1220s. Roncenay was part of the Bailiwick (Bailliage) Troyes. Until the French Revolution , the municipality was in the province of Champagne . From 1793 to 1801 Roncenay was assigned to the district of Ervy and the canton of Saint Jean de Bonneval. From 1801 to 2015, the municipality was in the canton of Bouilly and has been part of the canton of Les Riceys ever since. Roncenay has been part of the Troyes arrondissement since 1801.

traffic
Roncenay is not far from major national transport routes. There has been no stop in the community since 1996. At that time, the line from Troyes to Saint-Florentin was closed. The still existing railway line from Roncenay towards Troyes is used for freight traffic. Troyes has good transport links by rail and bus. The E54 passes a few kilometers north . The closest connection is in Saint-Thibault. The D109 and D190, which run through the village, are important for regional traffic.
