Virey-sous-Bar is a French commune with 621 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Troyes and the canton of Bar-sur-Seine .
location
Virey-sous-Bar is located in the southern half of the Aube department around 25 km (as the crow flies) southeast of the city of Troyes on the Seine . The southern border of the Forêt d'Orient Regional Nature Park is north of the municipality.
The community consists of the settlements of La Chaussée, L'Enclos and Les Croyères, the hamlet (hameau) La Maison Éclusière Morte Vieille and some individual farms.
history
The parish belonged to the District of Bar sur Seine from 1793 to 1801. It has also been part of the canton of Bar-sur-Seine since 1793 (1793-1801: canton of Bar sur Seine). From 1801 to 1926, Virey-sous-Bar was administratively part of the Bar-sur-Seine arrondissement. This went on in 1926 in the Arrondissement of Troyes, to which the community still belongs today.

The increasing mechanization of agriculture led to a continuous decline in the number of inhabitants to the lows in the 1880s. After 1960 the population grew due to the proximity to the city of Troyes and the job opportunities there.
