The captain lieutenant is one of the ranks of the Bundeswehr for naval uniform wearers . The legal basis is the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and uniforms of soldiers and the Soldiers Act .
Salutation
In the central policy A2-2630 / 0-0-3 "Military forms and celebrations of the Bundeswehr" (formerly ZDv 8.10) is in addition to regular salutation "Lord Lieutenant" also explicitly to in the vernacular of the Navy common "Mr. Kaleu “Pointed out as a short form.
Rank badge
The rank insignia of the lieutenant commander show three sleeve stripes on both lower sleeves . The two outer stripes are medium wide; the inner one is narrow.
Others
The rank designation for air force and army uniform carriers of the same rank is captain. With regard to the authority to command, appointment , pay , the subordinate and superordinate ranks, similarly also with regard to the positions, captain lieutenants and captains are equal.

KptLt, coastal service career
The captain lieutenant was a rank in the rank group of captains in the People's Navy of the GDR and was comparable to the NATO rank code OF-2. He corresponded to the captain of the NVA .
The rank badge consisted of shoulder pieces with a navy blue background and parallel silver cords. Four square gold-colored shoulder stars were attached to the shoulder piece. The sleeve badge consisted of two yellow single stripes and one narrow stripe. The career badge was sewn over it. In contrast to all other German naval forces, the sleeve badges only covered about 40% of the sleeve circumference.

In the German Empire and the Navy , the captain lieutenant was a rank of the rank group of captains , comparable to the captain at the time .
Engineer officers wore a cogwheel instead of the starfish on their sleeves and shoulder pieces, medical officers the Aesculapian staff, naval weapons service 2 crossed tubes, barrage weapons service a raise (symbolized mine), intelligence service a lightning bolt, administrative officers the Mercury staff.
In the German Empire the lieutenant captain only wore 2 (medium) wide stripes on his sleeve. Naval officers have a crown in place of the starfish.

Former German armed forces
In the German armies, up to the first half of the 18th century, the lieutenant captain, also captain lieutenant or lieutenant captain , was a rank between first lieutenant and captain . This rank, another designation was staff captain or staff captain , was usually given to the actual leaders of companies that were not also their owners .
British armed forces

In the British Royal Navy , the rank of Lieutenant (NATO Code OF-2) is referred to as Lieutenant ( Lt for short ).
Former French forces
In the French army of the Ancien Régime , the captain-lieutenant was the head of a unit of the royal guard . The highest rank here was that of a captain , who was always held by the king himself.

In the Canadian naval forces , the Royal Canadian Navy , the rank of Lieutenant (NATO Code OF-2) is called Lieutenant ( Lt (N) for short ).
