The staff veterinarian is one of the ranks of the Bundeswehr . These are medical officers with a license to practice as a veterinarian . The rank is awarded by the Federal President with the order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of the soldiers on the basis of the Soldiers Act .

Positions

Staff veterinarians are appointed as "command veterinarians " in the areas of animal welfare , animal disease control , animal husbandry and in one of the monitoring centers for public law tasks in a medical facility of the Bundeswehr (e.g. in the veterinary squad of the Operation and Training Center for Packed Animals 230 , the service dog clinic or in one of the monitoring centers for public-law tasks ) veterinary care of the federal service dogs , mules and Haflingers . As an "institute veterinarian" z. B. in the medical academy and affiliated institutes such as the Institute for Microbiology of the Armed Forces or in one of the central institutes of the medical service , the use in the fields of histology , food technology , microbiology, etc.

The same legal principles and requirements, for example with regard to minimum length of service , career affiliation and employment relationship, apply to the appointment of a staff veterinarian or employment with this rank as for staff doctors . Instead of a license to practice as a doctor or dentist 's license to practice as a veterinarian requirement. Like other medical officer candidates, prospective veterinarians usually finish their veterinary studies at a civil university with the rank of lieutenant and are promoted to veterinary staff with a license to practice medicine .

The rank badge for staff veterinarians essentially corresponds to that for staff doctors . A career badge in the form of a modified Aesculapian staff is used to differentiate between staff veterinarians . The snake writhes in the raceway badge for veterinarians in double winding (by a rod, not shown).

The rank was newly created with the sixth order of the Federal President on the rank designations and the uniform of soldiers from May 5, 1966.

Others

With regard to the authority to issue orders in terms of troop service and technical matters within the meaning of the Superiors Ordinance and Defense Disciplinary Regulations , with regard to equivalent, subordinate and superior ranks within the meaning of ZDv 14/5 and with regard to salary , staff veterinarians are also treated on an equal footing with the medical officer . In the order of promotion to be regularly followed according to the Soldiers' Career Ordinance and ZDv 20/7, the previous rank is the lieutenant and the next rank is the senior veterinarian . Ranks for veterinarians only carry army uniforms.
