Arpent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Arpent was a French square measure and roughly corresponded to the Morgen or the Juchart .

The starting point was the length measure, the perche . It had different values according to the application, and the Arpent accordingly. Possible sizes were, for example:

  • 1 arpent (Parisian arpent) = 100 square perche = 32400 Parisian square feet = 3418 45 square meters = 34 950 ares
  • 1 arpent (perche as a field measure rod = 5.847 meters) = 34.18868 ar
  • 1 arpent (perche as a land measure rod = 6.497 meters) = 42.20825 ares
  • 1 arpent (perche as a forest measure rod = 7.146 meters) = 51.07198 ares

The measure was temporarily adapted to the metric system and equated with the hectare , so it comprised 10,000 square meters. However, this is not common. Converters available online put an Arpent at around 0.34 hectares, for example. or good 0.4
