Montpothier is a French commune with 331 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine , to the canton of Nogent-sur-Seine and is part of the Nogentais community association founded in 2006 .

Montpothier is located around 55 kilometers northwest of Troyes and around 73 kilometers east-southeast of Paris in the north-west of the Aube department. Neighboring communities are Louan-Villegruis-Fontaine in the north and northwest, Villenauxe-la-Grande in the north and east, Barbuise in the east and southeast and La Saulsotte in the south and west.
