Avant-lès-Marcilly is a French commune with 508 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aube department in the Grand Est region . The place belongs to the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine and the canton of Saint-Lyé . The municipality is also part of the community association L'Orvin et de l'Ardusson, founded in 2003 . The inhabitants are called Avants / Avantes .
geography
Avant-lès-Marcilly is about 40 kilometers west-north-west of Troyes in the north-west of the Aube department. The municipality consists of the settlements Avant-lès-Marcilly, Le Mesnil and Les Ormeaux and a few individual farms.
Neighboring communities are Fontaine-Mâcon in the northwest, Saint-Aubin in the north, Ferreux-Quincey in the northeast, Saint-Loup-de-Buffigny in the east, Rigny-la-Nonneuse and Fay-lès-Marcilly in the southeast, Charmoy in the south, Trancault in the Southwest and Soligny-les-Étangs and Bouy-sur-Orvin in the west.
history
As the menhirs and megaliths prove, the area has been inhabited for a long time. During excavations, finds from the Gallo-Roman times came to light. The parish church is partly from the 12th / 13th centuries. Century. A village formed around them. Until the French Revolution, Avant-lès-Marcilly was within the province of Champagne . The parish belonged to the district of Nogent-sur-Seine from 1793 to 1801. Since 1801 it has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine. From 1793 to 1801 it was assigned to the Canton of Fay. And from 1801 to 2015 the municipality was within the canton of Marcilly-le-Hayer . The community used to be called Avant .
