The place belongs to the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine and the canton of Saint-Lyé . The municipality is also part of the community association L'Orvin et de l'Ardusson, founded in 2003 . Avant-lès-Marcilly is about 40 kilometers west-north-west of Troyes in the north-west of the Aube department. The municipality consists of the settlements Avant-lès-Marcilly, Le Mesnil and Les Ormeaux and a few individual farms.

history
