The place belongs to the arrondissement of Nogent-sur-Seine and the canton of Nogent-sur-Seine . The community is also part of the Nogentais community association founded in 2006 . The inhabitants are called Barbisiens .

Barbuise is located around 50 kilometers northwest of Troyes and around 77 kilometers east-southeast of Paris in the northwest of the Aube department. Neighboring municipalities are Villenauxe-la-Grande in the north, Plessis-Barbuise in the north and northeast, La Villeneuve-au-Châtelot in the east, Pont-sur-Seine in the south and southeast, Marnay-sur-Seine in the south, La Saulsotte in the west as well Montpothier in the northwest.
