Jeanne Niquille

Jeanne Niquille (born July 1, 1894 in Friborg ; † September 9, 1970 ibid) was a Swiss writer and archivist in the canton of Friborg .

Life

Jeanne Niquille was born as the daughter of Casimir Niquille (1855-1907), who was General Inspector of Forests and Domains of the Canton of Friborg, and the teacher Pauline Quartenoud (1862-1944). She was one of the first women from Freiburg to complete an academic education. After working as a teacher from 1910 to 1914 at the Kollegium Hl. Kreuz in Freiburg, she studied from 1914 to 1918 at the Faculté des Lettres of the University of Freiburg , among others with Albert Büchi . She received her doctorate in 1918 with a thesis on the institution of the Hôpital Notre-Dame à Friborg .

From 1918 to 1957 Jeanne Niquille worked as an archivist at the Freiburg State Archives . In 1927 she was a scientific advisor for Freiburg's participation in the Swiss Exhibition for Women's Work SAFFA. Since around 1932 she has been a member of the “ Club Hrotsvit ”, a Swiss cultural association of Catholic women, founded by Agnes von Segesser from Lucerne .

During her career, Niquille wrote numerous scientific publications on legal history, Romance philology, literature and art history. Themes from Freiburg history , especially the city history of Freiburg, dominate her work. The historian wrote numerous articles for the Historical-Biographical Lexicon of Switzerland .
