Agnes von Segesser

Agnes von Segesser (born January 28, 1884 in Lucerne ; † April 12, 1964 there ) was a Swiss writer from the canton of Lucerne .

Life

Agnes von Segesser was a daughter of Karl Ulrich Segesser von Brunegg and Josefa Schwytzer von Buonas and had five siblings. Her grandfather was the Lucerne politician and author Philipp Anton von Segesser . After completing school and home economics training, she went on study trips to France and England. She remained single and worked from 1919 to 1929 as an actuary for the Pro Senectute Lucerne Foundation. She later also campaigned for the goals of old-age provision in Switzerland, and she was also committed to nature conservation issues and was active as a travel guide.

In 1931 Agnes von Segesser's first publication Zeit-Lupe appeared. Cultural- historical sketches and stories with contributions to legends and local and contemporary history of Lucerne and the landscape on Lake Lucerne . In the period before Brother Klaus canonized she wrote a biographical treatise on Niklaus von Flüe. Further works are devoted to art history, social, folklore and heraldic themes, mainly from the Canton of Lucerne.

During the Second World War , Agnes von Segesser was a member of the Forum Helveticum, performed in the Swiss lecture service and worked as a columnist for newspapers and as a speaker with lectures in Swiss German for the radio station Radio Beromünster , on whose program committee she sat until 1961.

In 1932 she and Hilde Vérène Borsinger were among the founders of the Club Hrotsvit , a cultural organization of artistically active Catholic women from all over Switzerland. Until 1957 she headed the association as president and until 1960 she was also the editor of the association's magazine.

In 1936 Agnes von Segesser published an overview of the magazines for women with ideological and cultural goals that appeared in Switzerland.

Appreciation

In 1946 Agnes von Segesser was awarded membership in the Third Estate of the Order of Malta .

Number 2 in Schwyzerlüt magazine . Zytschrift for üsi Schwyzerische Mundarte from 1962 was dedicated to her as a writer of the newer dialect literature.
