The Coronel Pringles department is located in the center of the province of San Luis in western central Argentina and is one of 9 administrative units in the province.
It is bordered to the north by the departments of Ayacucho and Libertador General San Martín , to the east by the department of Chacabuco , to the east and south by the department of General Pedernera and to the west by the departments of Juan Martín de Pueyrredón and Belgrano .
