The Ayacucho Department is located in the north of the San Luis Province in the western center of Argentina and is one of 9 administrative units in the province.
It borders the provinces of La Rioja and Córdoba to the north, the Junín and Libertador General San Martín departments to the east, the Coronel Pringles and Belgrano departments to the south, and the Mendoza and San Juan provinces to the west .
