Frédéric Kowal

Frédéric Kowal (born October 2, 1970 in Nogent-sur-Seine ) is a former French rower who won an Olympic bronze medal in 1996.

Athletic career

The 2.01 m wide Frédéric Kowal from the club Cercle d'Aviron Nogentais finished fourth in 1992 One of the Nations Cup , a precursor of competition U23 World Championships . In 1993 he won the silver medal in the double quad at the Mediterranean Games , at the World Championships in 1993 and 1994 he finished fifth in the double quad. At the 1995 World Championships , he again reached fifth place, this time in a double scull . In 1996 at the Olympic Games in Atlanta he competed in double sculls with Samuel Barathay . The two French won their preliminary and their semi-finals. In the final, they finished third behind the Italians and Norwegians, one and a half seconds behind the Norwegians.

In 1997, Kowal won the bronze medal in double sculls at the Mediterranean Games. At the 1997 World Championships , he finished sixth in the quadruple scull. The following year he reached fourth place in double sculls at the 1998 World Championships together with Yvan Deslavière . In 1999, Kowal rowed together with Guillaume Jeannet at the 1999 World Championships, also in fourth place. For the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney drew Adrien Hardy to Kowal in the double sculls, the two reached the seventh place. Frédéric Kowal started in 2001 in the single. He won the bronze medal at the Mediterranean Games in 2001. At the World Championships, he finished 10th in 2001 and 15th in 2003 .
