Châlette-sur-Loing is a commune with 12,576 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loiret in the region Center-Val de Loire . It is the administrative seat of the eponymous canton of Châlette-sur-Loing in the arrondissement of Montargis .

geography

The municipality is surrounded by Cepoy in the north, Paucourt in the east, Amilly in the south-east, Montargis in the south, Villemandeur in the south-west, Pannes in the west and Corquilleroy in the north-west. Next to the River Loing and its tributary Solin leading shipping channels Canal du Loing , Canal de Briare and Canal d'Orléans by the municipality.

history

In the 9th century the name Caderaita appears. In 1065 the town and its church were donated to the Abbey of Saint-Benoit. The Machaut family ruled the place from 1285 to 1530.
