It is part of the canton of Lorris (until 2015: canton of Châtillon-Coligny ) in the arrondissement of Montargis . The inhabitants are called chapellois .

La Chapelle-sur-Aveyron is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Château-Renard in the north and northeast, Melleroy in the northeast, Saint-Maurice-sur-Aveyron in the east and southeast, Châtillon-Coligny in the south and Montbouy in the west.
