Amilly is a commune with 12,977 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loiret in the region Center-Val de Loire . She was the administrative center of the eponymous canton Amilly and heard in its resolution 2015 Canton Châlette-sur-Loing in Arrondissement Montargis .

geography

The community is located southwest of Montargis . It is further surrounded by Châlette-sur-Loing in the north-west, Paucourt in the north, La Chapelle-Saint-Sépulcre in the north-east, La Selle-en-Hermoy in the east, Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the south-east, Conflans-sur-Loing to the south, Mormant-sur-Vernisson to the southwest and Villemandeur to the west. The city lies on the Loing River and the Canal de Briare .

history

The Gallo-Roman settlement of Amelium has been known here since the 4th century . From the 12th century, the village came under the rule of the Courtenay family.

In the 13th century (1243) the first Dominican convent was established in Amilly.

In 1983, ancient grave sites with different women's skeletons were discovered during excavations.
