Préfontaines is a commune with 452 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loiret in the region Center-Val de Loire . It is part of the canton of Courtenay (until 2015: canton Ferrières-en-Gâtinais ) in the arrondissement of Montargis . The inhabitants are called Pratifontains .

Préfontaines is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Château-Landon in the north, Nargis in the east, Girolles in the south and south-east, Treilles-en-Gâtinais in the south and south-west and Courtempierre in the west and south-west.
