Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Courtenay included the 15 municipalities of Bazoches-sur-le-Betz , Chantecoq , La Chapelle-Saint-Sépulcre , Courtemaux , Courtenay , Ervauville , Foucherolles , Louzouer , Mérinville , Pers-en- Gâtinais , Rozoy-le-Vieil , Saint-Hilaire-les-Andrésis , Saint-Loup-de-Gonois , La Selle-sur-le-Bied and Thorailles . Its layout corresponded to an area of 281.45 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 4511.
The territorial reforms of 1926 and 1942 did not affect the Courtenay canton.
Changes in the community since the nationwide reorganization of the cantons
2019: Merger of La Selle-sur-le-Bied and Saint-Loup-de-Gonois → La Selle-sur-le-Bied
2016: Fusion of Douchy and Montcorbon → Douchy-Montcorbon
