The Canton Gien is a French canton in the Arrondissement of Montargis in the Loiret in the region Center-Val de Loire ; its main town is Gien . His representative in the Conseil Régional for the years 2008-2014 was Jean-Pierre Hurtiger.

Until the nationwide reorganization of the cantons in 2015, the canton of Gien consisted of the eleven municipalities of Boismorand , Coullons , Gien , Langesse , Le Moulinet-sur-Solin , Les Choux , Nevoy , Poilly-lez-Gien , Saint-Brisson-sur-Loire , Saint -Gondon and Saint-Martin-sur-Ocre . Its layout corresponded to an area of 369.77 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 4514.

history
From 1800 to 1926 the canton belonged to the Arrondissement of Gien . This was then dissolved as part of an administrative reform. Since then, the canton of Gien has belonged to the arrondissement of Montargis .
