Chevannes belongs to the arrondissement of Montargis and the canton of Courtenay (until 2015: canton Ferrières-en-Gâtinais ). The inhabitants are called Chevannois .

Chevannes is located about 78 kilometers east-northeast of Orléans in the Gâtinais landscape . The municipality is crossed by the river Betz and its tributary Sainte-Rose . Chevannes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Bransles in the north and north-west, Égreville in the north and north-east, Chevry-sous-le-Bignon in the east and north-east, Pers-en-Gâtinais in the east and south-east, Griselles in the south and south-west and Ferrières-en- Gâtinais to the west and southwest.
