history

In the year 1019, the place Luc, located on the Via Aurelia , appears in the area that was already populated in prehistoric times as Lucus in the springs, which means something like holy forest .

In the 14th century, Le Luc was under the rule of the Lords of Lascaris - Ventimiglia . In the 16th century they gave up their old castle in Le Luc and instead built a new residence with gardens at the foot of the hill that were laid out by André Le Nôtre . At the time of the French Revolution , the buildings were converted into a hospital. Today the facility no longer exists.

The Edict of Nantes allowed the Protestants in Le Luc as one of three localities in Provence to practice their religion freely, which contributed to the economic prosperity of the community.

In July 2003, the Franco-German Army Aviation Training Center Tiger was founded at Le Luc-Le Cannet airfield, in which aircraft crews are trained for the Eurocopter Tiger attack helicopter . A branch of the French Armed Forces Administration is also located here .
