Le Cannet-des-Maures ( Provence Lo Canet dei Mauras or Lou Canet dei Mauro ) is a French municipality with 4300 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Var department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .
geography
Le Cannet-des-Maures is located on a wide plain at the foot of the 405 m high Montagne de Recoux. The soil is red and rich in bauxite . The valley is drained by the rivers Réal Martin , Riau Tort and Aille . On the south side of the valley rise the pine-planted hills of Balaçan, the highest point of which, the Pic Martin, reaches 396 m.
history
Finds from the Iron Age document a settlement in the area of Le Cannet-des-Maures since prehistoric times.
Attractions
The Romanesque parish church of Saint-Michel in the old village center was built in the 11th century. It is classified as a monument historique . Each of its three naves ends in an apse, the vaults of which converge in a round arch. The church tower was built in the 17th century and a wrought-iron campanile was added in the 18th century . Inside there is a wooden Madonna from the former Notre-Dame la Capaletto chapel .
