geography

The village is located at an average altitude of 300 m in the valley of the Issole , which crosses the place, in the middle of a wide, fertile plain which in the distant past formed the bottom of a lake. In the municipality of Garéoult there are three springs, Saint Martin , Saint Médard and Clastre . To the northeast of the village, which is surrounded by low hills, lies the extensive wooded area of the Bois communal de Garéoult .

history

The settlement of the municipality in prehistoric times is controversial. In 1988, 90 graves were discovered in the area, which some researchers dated to the Gallo-Roman era , while others consider them to be much younger and assume that the graves date from the Middle Ages . In 1017 the village appears in the sources under the name Guardilis . It belonged to the territory of the Viscounts of Marseille , later to the Abbey of La Celle.
