geography
The small Provencal village of Saint-Julien is elevated on a hill that rises almost 300 m above the plain of the High Provence as if isolated. The successive rocky plateaus are covered with shrub-like, poor vegetation. The municipality is located in the Verdon Regional Nature Park .
history
Archaeological studies have shown that the Pignolets cave was inhabited by prehistoric times . There are other traces of settlements in Celtic-Ligurian times in Gourdane . In Gallo-Roman times , people lived in Malaurie , Sainte-Anne , Saint-Julien and in the important Roman base of Saint-Plume .
In the Middle Ages, Saint-Julien was first mentioned in 1182 as Sanctus Julianus Montanarius . The other names of the place were soon Saint-Julien-le-Montagnier and later Saint-Julien-la-Montagne . The first recorded "Lord" of Saint-Julien was a woman: Laure de Saint-Julien , who was known for her beauty and was sung about by the troubadour Foulquet de Marseille . Subsequently, the rule was successively with the Counts of Marseille, Arnaud de Triano, and the families of Castellane and Forbin. The castle, which is now completely destroyed, was built by the Knights Templar.

As in many municipalities in the department, the municipality's population has grown rapidly since the early 1960s until today. The cause of this development is solely a sustained strong influx, especially from other parts of France, as the birth rate was negative over the entire period.
Culture and sights
- The architecture of the Romanesque church of Saint Trinité , registered as Inscrit Monument Historique, is characteristic of churches in the High Provence: a raised nave with a barrel vault supported by arches as a roof and a round apse. The wooden main altar of the church dates from the 17th century and is gilded. The choir is illuminated by a lantern in the shape of a square rock.
- From the place you have a view of the surroundings. A city gate and the remains of the former fortification are the last witnesses of the former fortress.
