Seillons-Source-d'Argens is a French commune with 2,468 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Var department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . It belongs to the canton of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume in the Arrondissement of Brignoles .
geography
In the midst of vineyards, Seillons-Source-d'Argens rises on a 388 m high hill above the plain originally defined by far moorland. From the place you have a clear view of the Massif de la Sainte-Baume , the Montagne Sainte-Victoire and the Alps . A few kilometers from the village is the source of the Argens .
history
Traces of agricultural use from the Iron Age have been found in the village of La Rouvière . The settlement is documented until the early Christian period.
In 1013 the place was first mentioned under the name Sillonem . It was under the rule of the Counts of Marseilles, and later those of Agoult .
After Seillons was destroyed during the Huguenot Wars , it was rebuilt by Elzéar d'Agoult and the Grimaldi family , who owned it until the Revolution.
