Location of the Westfalen barracks in North Rhine-Westphalia

The Westfalenkaserne is a barracks of the army of the Bundeswehr in Ahlen .

history

Shortly after the Bundeswehr was set up , the Westphalia barracks in the "Heessener Busch" between Ahlen and Heessen , a former property of Baron von Boeselager , was completed. This also includes a tank washing facility , a shooting range, an ammunition depot and an arms store. In addition, the Oestricher Forest nature reserve is used as a practice area.

The barracks were used, in addition to the Lützow barracks to Münster - Handorf , primarily by the 19 Panzer Grenadier Brigade, which housed the 191 Panzer Grenadier Battalion, the 192 Armored Infantry Battalion and other supply and supplementary units. Other units housed here were the tank battalion 204 (disbanded March 1992) and the replenishment training company 7/7. On August 31, 2002 the brigade and on May 18, 2006 the Panzergrenadierbataillon 192 were disbanded.

Subsequently, the medical regiment 22 from neighboring Hamm , which was previously located in the Paracelsus barracks opposite the Bundeswehr hospital in Hamm , was relocated to Ahlen. The location was then up for grabs for a long time and was finally rebuilt. In May 2016, the Medical Regiment 22 was dissolved as part of the Bundeswehr reform. Instead, Recruit Company 3 and the newly established reconnaissance battalion 7 have been using the Westphalian barracks with unarmed drones . As a result, 800 soldiers are at the top again at the site.

At the moment (January 2016) the so-called “trio building” is being built, in which officers, NCOs and crew ranks will be fed under one roof in the future. This makes the officers' home and the NCO's home obsolete.
