Herbert Schui

Herbert Karl Schui (born March 13, 1940 in Cologne ; † August 14, 2016 in Pomy , Département Aude ) was a German economist and politician ( WASG , Die Linke ). He was professor of economics at the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics and from 2005 to 2010 a member of the Bundestag .

biography

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1961 at St. Matthias-Gymnasium in Gerolstein , Schui first did his military service and began studying economics at the University of Cologne in 1962 , which he completed in 1968 with a degree in economics . He was then a research assistant at the University of Konstanz and spent 1970 study visits to Clermont-Ferrand and Paris and 1971 and 1972 in Rochester . In 1972 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. pole. at the University of Konstanz with the thesis Monetary and Credit Policy in a Planed Economy - the French example .

In 1974 he was appointed assistant professor at the University of Bremen . In 1980 he moved to the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics as a professor of economics . In 1975 he was a co-founder of the Alternative Economic Policy working group . In 2005 he ended his work as a university lecturer. He was a member of Attac's Scientific Advisory Board .

Schui was married and had one child. His wife Ute Schui-Eberhart is an honorary citizen of Buchholz in the Nordheide .

politics

Schui was a member of the SPD for many years . In 2004 he was one of the co-founders of the ASG , from which the WASG later emerged. After the WASG merged with the PDS , he became a member of Die Linke in 2007.

From 2005 he was a member of the German Bundestag . In 2005 he moved in via the open state list of the Linkspartei.PDS , in 2009 via the state list of the Left in Lower Saxony.

On November 1, 2010, he resigned from the Bundestag. Johanna Voss (Die Linke) followed for him .

Commemoration

The Faculty of Social Economics at the University of Hamburg organized a symposium in memory of Herbert Schui from November 24th to 26th, 2017.
