Alexander Schur (born July 23, 1971 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach . He played in defensive midfield.
Player career
In his youth, Schur played at VfR Bockenheim since 1977 . In 1988 he moved to Rot-Weiss Frankfurt in the Oberliga Hessen. In total, he played there for six years and was in the 1989/90 season championship league and in 1989 and 1992 Hessen Cup winner . After a season with local rivals FSV Frankfurt (25 games), Schur came to Eintracht in 1995 - discovered by Charly Körbel - in the 2nd Bundesliga , where he initially only played for the amateur team.
Schur played for Eintracht Frankfurt from 1996 to 2006 , for which he scored 23 goals in a total of 251 competitive games. Because of his fighting spirit and his loyalty to the club, he became a crowd favorite. A highlight of his career was his header to 6: 3 against SSV Reutlingen 05 in the last minute of stoppage time, which enabled promotion to the first Bundesliga in the last game of the 2002/03 second division season .
Schur was the captain of Eintracht for several years. Since May 22nd, 2004 he also has his own fan club, the "EFC oldSCHURhand".
After the end of his professional career in the summer of 2006, he let his career come to an end with Sportfreunde Seligenstadt in the Frankfurt-Ost regional league. After the 2006/07 season, which ended with promotion, Schur ended his career for good.
Coaching career
He started the 2007/08 season as assistant coach of the youth team at Frankfurt Eintracht, but moved up to become assistant coach of the second team in December 2007. In the summer of 2009, Schur took over as coach of the B-Jugend der Eintracht, with whom he became German champions in the 2009/10 season . Also in the 2010/11 season Schur coached the Eintracht Frankfurt U17s. At the beginning of January 2011 he took over the post of U-19 coach. From the 2012/13 season to 2013/14, he coached Frankfurt's second team. In the 2015/16 season he was appointed to the professional team by Armin Veh.
From 2014 to 2018 he was again coach of the U19 of Eintracht.
Honors
Since January 23, 2013, an image of Alexander Schur has adorned one of the twelve “Pillars of Unity” in the Willy-Brandt-Platz subway station in Frankfurt.
Others
Schur has been running a soccer school in Hofheim am Taunus since 2008 . He is a trained banker.
