Harald Mattfeldt

Harald Mattfeldt (* 1943 ) is Professor of Economics at the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics (HWP).

He initially dealt with questions of monetary theory. From 1973 he worked as a university professor with a focus on "money and currency" at the University of Applied Sciences for Economics in Berlin (FHW), before he completed his habilitation in 1974, was then a private lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin and from 1977 a full professor of economics at the University of Economics and politics in Hamburg.

Mattfeldt has repeatedly dealt with the economic theory of John Maynard Keynes and made a selection of works from Keynes' publications, some of which are not so well known, available to the German audience and commented on them with regard to their economic and political implications. The commemorative publication for his 60th birthday is consequently also called "Keynes Today": He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Progress Institute for Economic Research mbH Bremen and Liaison Professor of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation .

At the Department of Economics and Politics (DWP; formerly HWP), since 2009 Department of Social Economics at the University of Hamburg , he is head of the new and recently certified Master’s degree for social and economic studies. In the Center for Economic and Sociological Studies (ZÖSS) he worked on the rate of profit and the law of the tendency of the rate of profit to fall .
