Joseph Otto Entres
Joseph Otto Entres (born March 13, 1804 in Fürth , † May 14, 1870 in Munich ) was a German sculptor .
Life
At the age of 16, Entres came to the art academy in Munich and became a student of Konrad Eberhard . Entres was particularly influenced by Eberhard in its medieval style.
With the return to the Middle Ages , Entres was one of the first to turn away from the antiquing direction. For the Munich cathedral , Entres created a statue of the Madonna and a Last Supper.
In addition to his work as a sculptor, Entres was also an art dealer and collector of medieval Franconian and Swabian sculptures. During the regotization of various churches, he appeared both as a sculptor and as a supplier of medieval works from his collection.
Entre's renovation or partial reconstruction of the Schrenck Altar in Munich's Peterskirche in 1841 can be seen as an early example of monument preservation, although it no longer meets today's monument preservation requirements.
The artists Johann Petz and Joseph Knabl are to be regarded as Entres' students.
