Johann Petz
Johann Petz (born May 16, 1818 in Lermoos , † March 7, 1880 in Munich ) was an Austrian sculptor who worked in Munich .
Life
Johann Petz was the son of a border guard. After an apprenticeship as a carver with Augustin Scharmer in Wildermieming, he went to Munich, where he became a student of the sculptor Konrad Eberhard and came under the artistic influence of the sculptors Joseph Otto Entres and Joseph Knabl . On October 13, 1837, he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts for the subject of sculpture. After another activity in Konrad Eberhard's studio, he set up a sculptor's workshop in Munich.
Johann Petz, who was a member of the Munich Association for Christian Art , worked mainly for church clients in old Bavaria and Bavarian Swabia as well as in the Austrian Mühlviertel . In addition, he created several grave monuments, including for the Görres family and the Munich theologian Heinrich Klee . Some of his works, which he created in the style of historicism , are no longer preserved.
