Lightnin 'Slim
Lightnin 'Slim (actually Otis Hicks ; born March 13, 1913 in St. Louis , Missouri , † July 27, 1974 ) was an American blues guitarist and singer, an important exponent of the swamp blues .
Born on a farm near St. Louis , Missouri , Lightnin 'Slim moved with his family to St. Francisville , Louisiana at the age of 13 . His brother taught him to play the guitar, if only in a rudimentary way. In the 1940s he appeared in Baton Rouge with Arthur Kelly . During the 1950s and 1960s he played a lot with his brother-in-law Slim Harpo . During this time he made several recordings.
In the mid-1960s, Lightnin 'Slim moved to Detroit . He toured Europe with the American Folk Blues Festival . In 1972 he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival . In 1973 he was on the American Blues Legend Tour (recordings released on Big Bear Records ).
Lightnin 'Slim died of cancer in 1974. He is buried in Pontiac , Michigan .
