Karl Ahrens

Karl Ahrens (born March 13, 1924 in Hilter ; † March 6, 2015 in Gehrden ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and from 1969 to 1990 ( 6th  to 11th electoral period ) a member of the German Bundestag .

Life

Ahrens joined the NSDAP in 1942 ( membership number 9.128.937). After military service and imprisonment, he studied law and was awarded a Dr. jur. PhD . He later worked as a ministerial director in the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior . Other activities: City director in Northeim , director of the municipal association of the Greater Hanover area and chairman of the Lower Saxony state association in the German Settlers Association - now the Association of Residential Property eV

From October 20, 1969 to December 20, 1990, he was a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in the German Bundestag for Lower Saxony . In the federal elections in 1969 , 1972 and 1976 he won the direct mandate in the constituency of Holzminden . In the three following elections, he entered parliament via the state list of the SPD Lower Saxony .

From 1983 to 1986 he was President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg . Then he was there until 1991 chairman of the Social Democratic Group. From 1978 to 1982 he had already been chairman of the Committee on Spatial Planning and Local Affairs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. In the Assembly of the Western European Union he was spokesman for the German delegation from 1983 to 1991, and since 1987 he has also been chairman of the Political Affairs Committee.
