Willi Göttert

Willi Göttert (born March 13, 1911 , † April 25, 2008 in Rüsselsheim ) was a Protestant pastor and peace activist . He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit twice.

biography

Göttert was born in March 1911. After his school days he studied theology . In the war years, Göttert was vicar and was persecuted by the National Socialists as a member of the Confessing Church . As an officer , most recently a captain, he fought on the Eastern and Western Fronts in World War II . It was highly decorated, u. a. with the German cross in gold, two iron crosses, the eastern medal, the combat clasp in silver, the War Merit Cross II and I Class with swords, the infantry assault badge, the wound badge in silver, the Kuban shield and the knight's crosses of the Order of the Crown and of the star of Romania.

From 1958 to 1976 he held the office of pastor in the Matthäus parish of the Böllensee settlement in Rüsselsheim. During this time he also wrote the book Arche 2000 . In 1972 he founded the association Kontakt Soziale Dienst , which organizes voluntary work for the disabled and senior citizens . After his retirement in 1976, Göttert became involved in the peace movement. He wrote a convention that dealt with the question of the peace order as a legal order. In 1979 he was co-founder of the "Rüsselsheim Peace Initiative" (RFI). Since 1981, Göttert has organized a rally on August 6th at Friedensplatz in Rüsselsheim to commemorate the atomic bombs being dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki . In 1982, Göttert published Before It Is Too Late: War Prevention through Supranational Peacekeeping and Comprehensive Disarmament . In 2003 he revised his peace plan and called it Peace Plan for the Protection of World Peace from War and Terror . He died at the age of 97.
