Thomas Frickel

Thomas Frickel (* 1954 in Mainz ) is a German director and film producer.

Life

Frickel studied German, journalism and sociology. For several years he was a freelance journalist specializing in cultural reporting / historical reporting. Since 1968 he has devoted himself to film work as an author, director and producer of numerous short and program-filling documentaries, including "No Startbahn West - A Region Resists" (co-director, 1982), The Troublemaker - Investigations on Oskar Brüsewitz (nominated for the German Film Prize 1993), alias Dennis (1996/1997), The Moon Conspiracy (2011) and “Miracles of Reality” (Hessischer Filmpreis 2017).

As chairman and managing director of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Dokumentarfilm (the association with the largest number of members for independent film in Germany), Thomas Frickel worked in various film and cultural policy functions from 1986 to 2020 - for example on the administrative board and executive committee of the FFA film funding agency , on the administrative board of VG Bild- Art , as a delegate of the rights holders in the VG Wort (in professional group 2: journalists, authors and translators of non-fiction) in the advisory board of the VFF and the Artists' Social Fund (KSK) etc. For several years he was the spokesman for the film / media section of the “ German Cultural Council ". He is also a co-founder and was a board member of the European Documentary Network EDN until 1999.
