Friedrich Ehrenreich von Ramin (born April 9, 1709 in Brüssow , † December 2, 1782 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , inspector general of the infantry, governor of the residential city of Berlin and knight of the Black Eagle Order .

Friedrich Ehrenreich von Ramin belonged to the Pomeranian noble family von Ramin . His parents were Friedrich Ehrenreich von Ramin (* 1685 in Brüssow; † 1764) and Maria Elisabeth, born von Pfuel (* 1684; † 1754).

Military background

At the age of 16, Friedrich Ehrenreich entered the Prussian military service as a private corporal . "He was considered an outspoken front-line soldier of an unmatched clarity and rudeness."

Friedrich Ehrenreich von Ramin became an officer in the Kalckstein Regiment ( Regiment on foot (No. 25) ). In 1756 he became battalion commander with the rank of colonel guard of a newly formed battalion from the grenadier companies of the margravial and von Kalckstein regiments. In 1757 he became a lieutenant colonel in command of the von Kalckstein Regiment. In 1759 he took over the von Kreytzen Regiment ( regiment on foot (No. 28) ) and was its boss until 1760. From 1760 until his death he was chief of the von Kalckstein Regiment (Regiment on foot (No. 25)), it was now called the Ramin Regiment . Ramin's battalions and regiments were infantry units of the Prussian Army in the Seven Years' War from 1756 to 1763 - the regiment on foot (no.28) from 1756 to 1763 at Schmottseiffen, Konradswalde and the regiment on foot (no.25), which since 1729 in Berlin was stationed from 1756 to 1763 near Torgau, Burkersdorf. After the death of Johann Dietrich von Hülsen (* 1693, † 1767), Friedrich Ehrenreich von Ramin succeeded him as governor of Berlin and was promoted to lieutenant general at the same time. He held the office of governor of Berlin until his death, during which time the construction of barracks for the seven infantry regiments of the Berlin garrison began under his leadership .

It is said that Friedrich Ehrenreich von Ramin had very few friends within the army, but that he had the trust of his king and was often allowed to be his guest in Potsdam. A letter from the king, written with an ironic undertone, to his lieutenant general is seen as a sign of this special trust. With this letter, Friedrich Ehrenreich received from Ramin in April 1773 the Dompropstei of the bishopric of Cammin from Frederick the Great. After his death, the unmarried Friedrich Ehrenreich von Ramin was buried in the crypt of the garrison church. In addition to the Order of the Black Eagle, King Frederick II had already awarded him the Order of Pour le Mérite on May 26, 1747, as Rittmeister in the Kalckstein Regiment on the occasion of a review .
