Steve Collins (born March 13, 1964 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ski jumper . Collins is a member of the Ojibwa nation.

Career

In the ski jumping World Cup , Collins made his debut in the 1979/80 season and first drew attention to himself on December 27, 1979 in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy , when he was able to take tenth place in his first World Cup competition. He became Junior World Champion on the normal hill in Örnsköldsvik in 1980 . On March 9, 1980, just before his 16th birthday, he won the jumping from the large hill in Lahti . This makes him the youngest ever World Cup winner. In addition to this victory, he was twice third in the World Cup and reached 18 other top 10 placements. He completed his last World Cup competition in December 1991.

Steve Collins stood out in the ski jumping circus because he could neither read nor write . At the beginning of his World Cup career, he always jumped without ski goggles, which was quite unusual even at the time.
