William Botting Hemsley
William Botting Hemsley (born December 29, 1843 in East Hoathly , Sussex , † October 7, 1924 in Broadstairs , Kent ) was an English botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ Hemsl. "
Live and act
Hemsley worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. In 1889 he was elected as a member (" Fellow ") in the Royal Society . He worked at work Illustrations of the New Zealand flora of Thomas Frederick Cheeseman with. For the Flora of Tropical Africa by Daniel Oliver , he edited the parts "Rhamneae" (Vol.1), "Campanulaceae" (in Volume 3), "Scrophulariaceae" (in Volume 4) and "Balanophoreae" (in Volume 6).
Honors
The plant genus Hemsleya Cogn. ex FBForbes & Hemsl. from the cucurbit family (Cucurbitaceae) has been named after him.
