Christoph Meineke
Christoph Meineke (born March 13, 1979 in Hanover ) is a German local politician . The non-party is mayor of the municipality Wennigsen (Deister) and member of the executive committee of the Lower Saxony Association of Cities .
education
After graduating from Matthias-Claudius-Gymnasium Gehrden , Meineke studied economics at the Vienna University of Economics , the University of St. Gallen and the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen. He is doing his doctorate under Birger Priddat at the private University of Witten / Herdecke . In 2012 he completed a senior executive education at Harvard Kennedy School .

Mayoral elections in 2006 and 2014
For the first time in northern Germany , he succeeded in 2006 as an individual candidate, without the assistance of a voter community against three partisan candidate of the SPD , CDU and FDP in a direct election to be elected mayor. Meineke became the youngest main administrative official in Lower Saxony by the final runoff election by 2013. This election caused a stir throughout Germany and is considered a reference for non-party politics in Germany. The strong personal commitment in the election campaign was essential for his success . The use of social media , which was new at the time , has been examined in scientific papers.
Meineke ran again as a non-party candidate for the mayoral election in May 2014. The SPD spoke out in favor of Meineke, the FDP and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen did not submit any candidates. Meineke won the election with 89.6% against a candidate from the CDU.

At the beginning of his term of office, Meineke announced that he wanted to provide online impulses for the renewal of the idea of local self-government and digital citizen participation . Among other things, he established a cooperation with the Institute for Information Management at the University of Bremen . As a result, Wennigsen became part of the “e2democracy” program with the climate promise project . In 2012, the municipality won the prize for online participation, which was awarded for the first time in Germany, for the citizen participation process initiated by Meineke for the Hohes Feld residential area in Wennigs . The digital projects are also part of the municipality's nomination for the German Sustainability Award 2012 in the Governance and Administration category . Other actions with the online community included, for example, the partnership with Wikimedia Germany for the Wiki Loves Monuments Wennigsen campaign . He runs a blog and communicates with citizens on social media channels.
As part of the Science Year 2014 initiative Die Digitale Gesellschaft of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Society for Informatics, he was honored with the award of Germany's Digital Minds . The award goes to those who drive digital development in Germany with their ideas and projects .
Supra-local work
Meineke has been a member and lecturer in the Innovators Club of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities since 2008 . He lectures on topics of citizen participation in the Internet age at institutions such as the German University for Administrative Sciences in Speyer, the German Institute for Urban Studies or ADV Austria . In November 2013 Meineke was elected to the Presidium of the Lower Saxony City Council. As the successor to the former Mayor of Hildesheim, Kurt Machens, he represents the mayors without party affiliation.
