Alfons Ambuel

Alfons Ambuel (born August 16, 1664 in Saint-Maurice , † March 13, 1742 in Sion ) was a Swiss politician and officer.

Life

Alfons Ambuel came from a respected Valais family that had been politically active since the beginning of the 16th century. He was the son of the provincial governor of Saint-Maurice, Emanuel Ambuel (1623-1681), who also Grosskastlan was and Zenden captain of Sion and his wife Catherine (1640-1670), daughter of Benedict de Platea (1597-1641). His grandfather was the castellan Balthasar Ambuel .

In 1689 he began his military career and became a lieutenant colonel in the Regiment de Courten in French service.

In the years 1699, 1706 and 1712 he was councilor of Sitten and from 1718 to 1719 Seckelmeister , and from 1723 to 1724, 1728 to 1730 and 1737 mayor of Sitten.

From 1723 he was the master of the banner and from 1726 to 1728 and from 1734 to 1736 he was the Grosskastlan von Sitten. From 1729 to 1737 and from 1741 to 1742 he was Deputy Governor of the Valais until he was governor from 1737 to 1741 .

He was one of the so-called Condottieri provincial governors of the Valais .

Alfons Ambuel was married to Anna Barbara (* March 8, 1685 in Sion; † May 29, 1723 ibid), daughter of Antoine VIII de Torrenté, since 1704. They had seven children together:

  • Alfons Ambuel;
  • Etienne-Joseph Ambuel;
  • Anne-Barbe Ambuel;
  • Marie-Catherine Ambuel (born January 20, 1709 in Sion; † November 20, 1791 ibid), married to Lieutenant Colonel Joseph de Courten (1707–1770);
  • Marie-Christine Ambuel, married to Maurice de Courten;
  • Anne-Marie Ambuel († March 30, 1780), married to Félix von Torrente (1723–1768);
  • Mary Elisabeth Ambuel (born May 5, 1722 in Sion; † May 26, 1770 in Sierre ), married to Xavier Kuntschen (1725–1810).
