Harry Edward Melling (born March 13, 1989 in London ) is a British actor who became famous for the role of Dudley Dursley in several Harry Potter films.

Acting career

Melling made his film debut in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 2001 , in which he played Harry's spoiled cousin Dudley Dursley . He played this role in other films in the series until 2010. For the film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 , Melling had to wear a fat suit so that he could get as close as possible to the obese Dudley from the novels, as he had lost almost half of his previous weight after Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix .

In contrast to other young actors in the Harry Potter series, Melling remained very busy as an actor even after the series ended. He studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and has appeared in theater productions at the Royal National Theater and the Old Vic Theater, among others. Since 2016 he has taken on more roles in film and television productions. 2018 he was in an episode of the Westerns The Ballad of Buster Scruggs alongside Liam Neeson to see in 2020, he became a villain role in the action film The Old Guard alongside Charlize Theron .

Private life

Melling is a cousin of actor Sam Troughton , nephew of Michael Troughton and David Troughton , and grandson of Patrick Troughton ( Doctor Who ).
