Wellington Arias (born March 13, 1991 in Santo Domingo ) is an American professional boxer of Dominican origin.

Career

Arias was the Dominican lightweight champion in 2009, 2010 and 2011. In July 2010, he won a bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Puerto Rico. In June 2011 he won the Pan American Games qualification in Panama. At the subsequent Pan American Games in Mexico, he was defeated in the first fight against the Brazilian Robson Conceição . At the 2011 World Championships in Azerbaijan, he was eliminated in the second preliminary round against the Uzbek Fazliddin Gʻoibnazarov .

In May 2012 he took part in the American Olympic qualification in Brazil and achieved second place. He was only defeated in the final against Félix Verdejo from Puerto Rico. So he started in July 2012 at the Summer Olympics in London , where he lost to the Ukrainian Vasyl Lomatschenko in the round of 16 .

Arias has been boxing as a professional in the USA since 2013 and trains at the Newburgh Boxing Club in New York. He won his professional debut by unanimous decision against Victor Galindo.
