George MacKay (born March 13, 1992 in London , United Kingdom ) is a British film actor .

Life

MacKay was born in Hammersmith . His mother was a costume designer, his father a stage master. He knew early on that he wanted to be an actor. In 1997, at the age of five, he staged Peter and the Wolf with friends and was already attracting the attention of talent scouts.

But it wasn't until 2003 that MacKay's breakthrough came when he played the supporting role of a lost boy for Peter Pan . In 2006 he was already in front of the camera in larger roles in both The Thief Lord and Tsunami - The Killer Wave . In 2008 MacKay appeared in Defiance - For my brothers who never gave up as Aron Bielski alongside Daniel Craig.

In 2008 he was cast in one of the leading roles in The Boys Are Back , for which he won the 2009 British Independent Film Awards in the category "Best Newcomer" and 2010 the London Critics Circle Film Awards in the category "Best British Young Talent ”was nominated.

In 2019 he took on one of the two central roles in the 1917 war film from director Sam Mendes .

In late June 2020, George MacKay became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences . MacKay has a sister.
