Amando de Ossorio Rodríguez (born April 6, 1918 in A Coruña , † January 13, 2001 in Madrid ) was a Spanish film director who specialized in fantastic horror films.

Life

Ossorio - the year of his birth is also incorrectly given as 1925 - after completing his studies, initially worked as a journalist for the newspaper and a radio station before he began writing screenplays in Madrid and working as an assistant on documentaries. He finished his work at the radio station when he directed his first feature film in 1963 , a Spaghetti Western .

After various attempts in various genres - and prices for documentaries that he continued to shoot - he turned towards the end of the decade to the horror film, which he made with the Riding Corpses (in the original Los muertos sin ojos , "The Dead Without Eyes") enriched a now classic film series. Due to his success, he stayed true to this genre until the end of his career.

Ossorio died as a result of a heart attack.
