Andreas Franz (born January 12, 1954 in Quedlinburg ; † March 13, 2011 in Hattersheim am Main ) was a German writer . Most of his works are detective novels .

Life

At the end of 1955, Andreas Franz and his parents left Quedlinburg in the GDR and moved to Helmbrechts (Upper Franconia). After his parents separated, he moved to Frankfurt am Main with his mother . He first attended the Goethe-Gymnasium and from the age of 16 a language school and already at the age of 17 he graduated in business English and French. He then worked as a drummer in various bands and as a studio musician. At the beginning of the seventies he also worked briefly as a truck driver, at the beginning of the eighties he completed a commercial apprenticeship, although according to his own admission he never wanted to work in the commercial area. From 1985 Franz worked as a freelance translator and prepared graphological reports. In 1990 he opened his own translation agency, which he gave up in 1997 in favor of writing.

Andreas Franz wrote his first novel, The Finger of God , which takes place in and around Helmbrechts, in 1986. This was followed by other novels, the manuscripts of which Franz sent to all German-language publishers for almost ten years, until the renowned Munich publisher Droemer Knaur his manuscript Jung, blond , dead , which was released in 1996 and immediately became a bestseller. His work comprises 22 novels and his total circulation is estimated at 5.5 million. The author Daniel Holbe completed his last novel Death Melody . In his books, Franz often showed the depths of the soul and the structures of organized crime.

Andreas Franz had been married since 1974 and had five children. He last lived in Hattersheim am Main . Andreas Franz died of heart failure on March 13, 2011 at the age of 57.

Julia Durant series

Place of action: Frankfurt am Main

Julia Durant is the Chief Inspector, known for her unconventional investigative methods. She works as a lead investigator at the homicide squad in Frankfurt, has an excellent job, but she cannot get her private life under control. She is divorced and all subsequent relationships have so far failed. She has a close relationship with her father, a retired pastor who lives near Munich . She made a brief appearance in the novel in the "Kieler Reihe" Eisige Nahe (Ice Nearness) novel . Since Andreas Franz's death, Daniel Holbe's Julia Durant series has been continued. While Franz still worked on the melody of death , Holbe then continued the series independently.

Peter Brandt series

Place of action: Offenbach

Film adaptations

In spring 2018, Sat.1 announced the film adaptation of the Julia Durant series. The first case, "Young, Blond, Dead" aired on December 4, 2018. Sandra Borgmann plays the role of the Frankfurt Commissioner . As a second case, "Kaltes Blut" was filmed and broadcast on October 14, 2019. The third case followed was "Murderous Days", broadcast on November 11, 2019.
