Essau is a town in the West African state of Gambia .
According to a calculation for 2013, around 6,640 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census from 1993 was 4,486.
geography
The place is located in the North Bank Region , Lower Niumi District at the mouth of the Gambia River in the Atlantic Ocean , three kilometers east of Barra .
Kang Point is located south of Essau .
history
Essau was the royal city of the Niumika until the 19th century. The kingdom of the Niumi was in conflict with the British colonists in Barra, so the Barra War broke out .
Attractions
About seven kilometers to the west lies the sacred crocodile pool of Berending .
